UK: Can I view 'Virtual Earth' (or similar) ONLINE or buy on disc? I've been trying to find a website where I can view Virtual Earth, or similar virtual Earth/globe, ONLINE without needing to download anything - or failing that I want to buy it on a disc, because I can't download anything via my rural 30 bit phoneline that cuts our every few minutes. But I can't find anything. In the UK do you know of any online shop that sells a virtual Earth type application on disc - or do you know of a website where I can view ONLINE (not download)? Thank you. (I don't need this for looking at cities/streets, etc, I need it for geologic features and rainforests.)
Anyone know a lot about the Globe Theatre? 1) When was the Globe Theater built? Who constructed it? How many times did it have to be rebuilt and why? 2) How many people did it seat? What was its construction like (how many levels, who sat in which seats, etc.)? 3) How much did it cost for someone to see a play? Did it cost more for certain seats? 4) What are groundlings and how did they get their name? 5) How did people know when a play was being performed? What sign was there if a play was cancelled? 6) What were some of the rules of the theater? 7) Who were The Lord Chamberlain's men? How did they get started? 8) Who acted the parts of the women in those days? 9) What was used for backgrounds, props, and lights? what is a good slogan idea for a travel company? I need to know a good slogan for my travel company. It's called Golden Globe Travel, we specialize in cruises and we can't seem to find a good slogan. It's all virtual, part of the new idea of the new class for 11th & 12th graders called Virtual Enterprise. Any idea's?
What are some good browser based mmo games? I made a ton of virtual friends in one, but the operators consistantly changed it for the worse, and I'd like to find a new game to waste some time playing... one that I could perhaps recruit my fellow online game geek friends from around the globe to play
Where can I find Google Earth locations with hi-res images? I am looking for large contiguous areas of the globe that are rendered in high detail in Google Earth. Is there some map or database that lists such areas, so that I don't have to resort to trial and error? I want to use the flight simulator someplace high detailed but not urban or flat. Also, if there is a way to find areas with Streetview and Microsoft Virtual Earth Birds Eye View, share those two. Thanks.
Is the “wisdom” of old religious people overrated? I think in previous times, old religious people had respectful positions in their communities. These people had the life experience that young people did not have and a lifetime of memories and anecdotes used to educate and improve the knowledge of younger generations. However, in today’s world with modern information technology and instant communication with billions of people all over the globe, the role of old religious people has declined into virtual insignificance, hasn’t it? Old religious people are shipped off to nursing homes where they stagger around in synthetic comfort until they die. The “wisdom” of old religious people appears as irrational hate and intolerance delivered in a whiney apologetic manner, right?
Best Virtual Physical Debit Card? I'm looking for an online account that could accept money from paypal and other credit cards, and give me an option to retrieve it from anywhere on globe, by using ATM or any other PHYSICAL shop. Like a common ATM card, not debit, but it should be global and capable of accepting paypal and others. Any idea?
Curved LCD's are already possible. So when does Google finally create a 1m diameter GoogleEarth globe? Would be really fantastic for schools. Geography, history, space, math, environment and probably many other lessons would be possible with it. Although zooming in would be possible of course, it would be already very nice to use it more as a virtual interactive modifyable realtime or historical atlas (=no zooming). In the ocean (or whereever you want - you could ofcourse drag it), there could be some interface where to select thousands of variables, like food production, population, enery consumption, pollution, etc. etc. Then the countries would get according colors and/or statistical bars would appear. As you never can see more than 1 half of a globe at the time, also 2 users at the same time could use the globe fully. Even if such a globe would cost $100.000 or more, i think many institutes, schools and companies would buy it.
What will the world be like in 10 years time? will it be better with no world hunger, will we be able to meet aliens or visit the moon like a tourist attraction, will we be able to eat virtual food or eat a pill that is like a full meal, will we be able to fly around in jet packs and carry laptops in our pockets or will the world be screwed up with more violence, drugs and murders? or will we die of Globe warming or world war 3 with a nuclear bomb that will blow us all up. what do you think?
Virtual Violence, Should we be worried? I was recently playing this game called: Pandemic 2. It involves concocting your own form of viral disease, which you are then tasked to methodically spread across the globe, and ultimately wipe out the world's population. I have played the majority of video games that could be described as disgusting, sick and horrible. But this simple little computer game struck me as particularly twisted, but looking at the total number of plays for this game, i was surprised to see how many other people had enjoyed constructing a biological doomsday. So my question is: should we be worried about these games that are dangerously close to being sociopath, should we avoid playing these games that are now just flirting with pure cruelty and desensitising us to true cruelty and suffering that these games are based upon? Thanks
How to create a "virtual" 360 panorama? Like this: http://fieldofview.com/flickr/?page=photos/mantisofdestiny/5087232934/sizes/o/ I've been trying to do it, but i cant get the "full 360 globe" Here's what I do: 360 pano @18mm, at 3 different levels (eye-line, lower, higher) And stitch them all together in Photoshop Elements as a panorama of 30+ photos. Is there a special software to do this? Special lens? Thanks! Now that I know how to view it, how do I create it? See how in the example, the photographer manages to take the photos where he is standing, without showing the feet or tripod? How do you do that? And don't tell me clone-stamping in Photoshop, because i know that's not it...
Met some guy online/ he's seemingly perfect, we're on opposite sides of the globe/Similar situations anyone? So i met some guy online and we video chatted and now just chat on skype; of course i can't meet any guys at my school but then i fall victim to the virtual fantasy of meeting a perfect guy that has a ton in common with me !! unfair :( and is it weird to regularly chat on skype? just because we have great conversations and all, it's sortof nice to have a no strings attached sortof "friendship" where you can just talk about anything.. but is that weird??? im not some recluse loner btw i have my real friends and family i talk to, it just sortof a diff experience online, obviously lol ^_^ thanks for feedback!
Illegals....What do we do? This question is addressing illegals from countries other than Mexico. We have them from all over the globe. Mainly as visa overstayers. We also get some legally to work in industries of the slave and sex trade held as virtual prisoners to fulfill contracts with these unscrupulous employers. They report them as returned to their country of origin but actually are still here. Some bring over gang members of MS13 from other countries who don't return. They have the money to bribe officials for the papers. 2 questions....Did you know this was a problem? And...How do we stop this in our struggles against illegal immigration? DAR...They come legally but are used illegally.
I'm looking for a specific game...? It's a free game, but I can't for the life of me remember it. It's sort of like a view of the globe, and you have a theoretical virtual self that's born anywhere in the world based on statistic averages, then you basically just press a button to advance, and see how it plays out. It was quite fun.. you could be like a kid in Africa, then you'd age, and it'd be like.. "Your mother just beat you." "You died of cholera."
Have you heard of SecondLife or There? Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total of 3,824,215 people from around the globe. There is the same, but more cartoonish, and you can't build "in world" you have to do it at home and then buy sell on their market place, so less flexiablity. Both have free sign up, or paid accts. In There its better to have a paid acct, in Second Life a free acct can do everything a paid acct can except own land. Secondlife.com There.com It used to be that you needed a credit card or phone number, but you don't now, it was changed recently. A person can make money in second life without spending any UNLESS it has to do with real estate, and then you need at least a basic monthly fee of 9.95 plus land fees. However, several of my friends make enough in game to pay for the game, as do I. I suggest getting a free acct and going to a lot of classes to learn how stuff works, and then useing the money you made to buy an acct. However, you do need a credit card for that. On the bright side, you can get a free Access America acct or Pay Pal acct.

Help the employees find names for their expected bundles of joy so they can get back to work! 1] Ching Lan Lu and her husband Cai Lu of Hong Kong are expecting their first child. They do not know the gender of the baby, so names for both genders, please. 2] Aldric Acelin Allard and his wife Alecia Aalish Allard of Paris are expecting their second child. How can the US Torture Program be stopped? An official U.S. program of torture and 'rendition' has been going on since before 9/11 and has never stopped. A number, estimated to be approximately 3,500, have been killed during these interrogations or have died as the result of them. At the present time, the government, acting under specific Presidential orders, has a virtual fleet of prison ships scattered all across the globe and masked by a curtain of strict secrecy. The U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S Department of State and the Central Intelligence Agency are all heavily involved in this program.

My life sucks and i cant understand why i am here,,,,? to start with.. my mom and dad used to fight each other often.. i have grown seeing them fighting each other often. i have seen them trying to commit suicide, when i was very young(8-12 yrs).. now i am aged 24 yrs though the no. of fighting has decreased, but still they fight atleast once a month.. they both dont understand each other, but they both are good and love me and my younger sister to the fullest. I have grown up watching their day to day fights, which made me to feel good if i am alone.. i dont have any good friends.. i am always polilte to everyone and i try to be friendly.. but why i dont have friends? firends is not just talking to each other.. being a boy, my friends expect me to go out after school time, or college time. but my mom is too scared that she wont send me out.. for the first time, i went to a movie with my friends was when i was studying in 3rd yr(age 20) and i begged my mom for it.. this is not the only reason i dont have any friends.. My mom and dad fight each other, because if my mom says anything, my dad starts fight and if my dad says anything, my mom starts fight. Seeing this from my childhood, i started to fear for speaking, as days go by, though i am in a group of friends chitchatting, i am the one who will be just listening and not speaking... i became so dumb.. and i didnt contact any of them after school or college. Instead of having a friend, i started to develop virtual friends.. MMORPG, online games where we used to meet people from all around the globe and play games with them. None of them there, doesnt know me, and i created a character to start the game with and had a lots of friend.. the char which was there is no relevant to my real char. My real character sucks.. so dumb and stupid. but in that virtual world, i was like a lively guy with good humour sense and friendly.. i made the character which i wanted to be, but something keeps stopping me to behave like that in real life.. As days passed by, i met this girl.. She is a brazialian age 28 and divorced.. i was 22 when i met her.. we started as friendly relationship and later we found the love between us. I used to speak to her through phone and occasionaly i do online chatting with webcam. I would say she was the one of the people to have a sucky life.. She loved a person and got married at age 22, later this guy started to ill treat her.. he was a pshycho and kept beating her always.. they got divorced in 2yrs(at her age 24). the only support she got was her brother.. her brother does a small business and he gave a job in his business.. He asked her to stay with him, but she is a girl who doesnt want to be dependant. So he had to give a job. this was all her past and i came inbetween her life, before she had to die.. yes, she was a lung cancer patient. she first hide it from me, but recently she didnt talk to me for 3 days and later she will be back. this happened for like 3 times.. when i kept asking her, she started to shout at me and made me to go mad on her.. She did that on purpose so that i will start hating her, but later when i cried, she said that she said about the cancer she got and the 1 month lifetime doctor gave her.. only one hope for her was that, if the treatment doctor gives was successful, she will live another yr.. As always god likes to kill the good peoples.. he took her life during the treatment.. i came to know about this through her friend, whom i have spoken before.. and i was like mad and kept crying.. and all this my parents doesnt know about it.. After college, i got placed in a reputed organization and i went for training programme out of my state.. For the first time, i spent 1 month without my family, logged in room with friends.. i learnt a lot in this 1 month, the need of a friendship.. it was really good.. i felt like i am out of a love caring jail. then i was back to my state to start my work.. Here i met these 2 girls.. They both are close friends from college days and got placed in same organisation.. they taught me what friendship is.. i started liking them and was with them always. They both are too good at heart and will never hurt anyone. I used to become possessive on them too.. i loved one of the girl.. i felt that it will be good if she was with me forever.. but things didnt go well.. she wanted me as a friend and scolded me. I understood my mistake.. though i stopped to tell my love again to her, i couldnt stop loving her.. the way she reacted to my love only made me to love her more. For the first time, i ever fought with my friends.. i never forught with my school friends or college friends, because that was not real friendship.. i fought with these 2, because the are my friends.. U gusy know, how a fight goes between friends.. a healthy fight.. mine too had a healthy fight.. but one day i messed everything.. a fight which broked my relationship between these 2 girls.. i cant say sorry and go again to them.. i have asked plenty of sorry to them, and they

Some sites even offer the choice to post opinions as an "annonomys" instead of revealing the individual's identity.Individual privacy is subjective and every person has the right to share as much as they feel appropriatte. People need to be reminded that the internet does not erase history. They also need to be aware that with the freedom of being heard so conveniantly lies responsability. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations. could you please tell me what to improve? thanks so much!
FIFA 10 (Xbox36) some "Captain Your Country" achievements Question? **(NONE OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS SAY THEY HAVE TO BE DONE ON A CERTAIN DIFFICULTY)** so I played CYC on amateur. It did give me Solid Performer, victorious, and solid performer but not the other 3 listed below for some reason I just completed Captain you're country mode: for a few following achievements and some worked and some didn't some got mixed up w/t others??? just wondering how or what I'm doing wrong on these below? 1.) Most Hat-Tricks: I did score more than 2+ hat tricks in the finals, each game I scored @ least 3+ in every game of the CYC but in amateur mode..simply because it doesn't say it has to be higher difficulty 2.) Masterful Performance - I did finish CYC w/t Wayne Rooney, on amateur and won 2 awards, Golden Boot, and Golden globe.....but nothing 3.) First Team Selection: Once again I did become #1 ranked on my England team, and wore the captain armband but didn't get this achievement either?? ***Managers First Choice: Here it says play #1 ranked member w/t virtual pro in CYC.....I used wayne rooney not a virtual pro/created character....but it gave me points for this so I guess they mixed up this and first team selection?

Christmas presents for teachers? Okay, so I've gotten a present for everyone on my list except for my teachers. I want to get gifts for all six of them, especially my Science Teacher, who is leaving to teach virtual school over Christmas break and won't be at our school next year. 4 of my teachers are women, and the other two are guys. Here's the little information I can give on them: Language Arts - She likes to read, and likes the TV shows "The Walking Dead" and "The Twilight Zone" U.S History- He's a Disney nut and an ex-Cast Member. He likes all the countries around the world, and has been to many of them . Chorus/Choir- Likes music and enjoys Starbucks coffee. She also likes Broadway musicals. She's probably my favorite of all of my teachers, but she's the one that most people will be getting a gift for (she is the most popular among all her students because is always there for us when we need her). Art- She's into Art and etc., she's best at Drawing and painting. It was in her class that I made the gift that I'm giving to my Mom, a very nice piece of pottery that has been glazed and fired and etc. She teaches 3D art (which I was in this semester), 2D Art, and Advanced Art (A mix of 2D and 3D art that's more advanced than the regular classes. Science- He's the teacher that is leaving over the break. He's funny and clever, and likes a lot of classic cartoons like Looney Tunes, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and the Peanuts (those are the ones he references most during class) He likes funny things in general, and has a lot of funny desk items and science desk items like a newtons cradle and a magnetic globe. Math- She's the one that I really don't know about. She doesn't really show what she likes or talks about it. She's probably the most difficult teacher I'll have to get a gift for. If anyone has any ideas on what to get them, that would be great! Thank you so much!
I have a couple questions about uninstalling programs, can you help me out? I have a couple questions. Here's what I know HOW to do. I go to start, control panel, add/remove programs, and select what I what removed. I know that much. Here's my questions: 1. I upgraded to the new Dell Support Center, mainly because it told me I should. The new icon in the bottom right hand corner is a wrench. The old icon was an e with a globe or something behind it, and the program came with the computer. It stands to reason that if I upgraded I could uninstall the old version. Is this right or does the old version need to be on here too? 2. I have the Musicmatch jukebox that came with the computer. When I went to buy a song, it told me I needed to upgrade to Yahoo Music Jukebox, because they bought out MM Jukebox. So I upgraded. When I went to uninstall, a yellow triangle in the bottom right popped up and said my virtual memory is low. A box popped up and said do I want to continue to uninstall. Fearing I might do something I shouldn't have, I cancelled. Now I have Windows Media player, Musicmatch jukebox, and Yahoo Music jukebox. How do I get rid of Musicmatch jukebox, considering the low virtual memory warning? I'm running XP, sorry meant to include that.
Do the Palestinians Really Want a State? The statelessness of Palestinian Arabs has been a principal feature of world politics for more than half a century. It is the signature issue of our time. The inability of Israelis and Palestinians to reach an accord of mutual recognition and land-for-peace has helped infect the globe with violence and radicalism—and has long been a bane of American foreign policy. While the problems of the Middle East cannot be substantially blamed on the injustice done to Palestinians, that injustice has nonetheless played a role in weakening America’s position in the region. Obviously, part of the problem has been Israeli intransigence. Despite seeming to submit to territorial concessions, one Israeli government after another has quietly continued to bolster illegal settlements in the occupied territories. The new Israeli government may be the worst yet: Its foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, is so extreme in his anti-Arab views that he makes the right-wing Likud prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, appear like the centrist he isn’t. The prospects for peace under this government are fundamentally bleak. And yet this Israeli government faithfully represents the Israeli electorate, which is in utter despair over the impossibility of finding credible partners on the Palestinian side with which to negotiate. Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. President Mahmoud Abbas’s more moderate Fatah movement may be willing to live in peace with Israel, but it has insufficient political legitimacy among Palestinians to negotiate such a deal. With Fatah and Hamas facing off against each other, the Palestinians are simply too divided to plausibly meet Israel across the table. And because the Palestinians are unable to cut a deal, a majority of Israelis, as shown by the recent election results, have apparently given up any hope for peace. But there is a deeper structural and philosophical reason why the Palestinians remain stateless—a reason more profound than the political narrative would indicate. It is best explained by associate Johns Hopkins professor Jakub Grygiel, in his brilliant essay, “The Power of Statelessness: the Withering Appeal of Governing” (Policy Review April/May 2009). In it, Grygiel does not discuss the Palestinians in particular, but rather the attitude of stateless people in general. Statehood is no longer a goal, he writes. Many stateless groups “do not aspire to have a state,” for they are more capable of achieving their objectives without one. Instead of actively seeking statehood to address their weakness, as Zionist Jews did in an earlier phase of history, groups like the Palestinians now embrace their statelessness as a source of power. New communication technologies allow people to achieve virtual unity without a state, even as new military technologies give stateless groups a lethal capacity that in former decades could be attained only by states. Grygiel explains that it is now “highly desirable” not to have a state—for a state is a target that can be destroyed or damaged, and hence pressured politically. It was the very quasi-statehood achieved by Hamas in the Gaza Strip that made it easier for Israel to bomb it. A state entails responsibilities that limit a people’s freedom of action. A group like Hezbollah in Lebanon, the author notes, could probably take over the Lebanese state today, but why would it want to? Why would it want responsibility for providing safety and services to all Lebanese? Why would it want to provide the Israelis with so many tempting targets of reprisal? Statelessness offers a level of “impunity” from retaliation. But the most tempting aspect of statelessness is that it permits a people to savor the pleasures of religious zeal, extremist ideologies, and moral absolutes, without having to make the kinds of messy, mundane compromises that accompany the work of looking after a geographical space. Grygiel raises a challenging proposition. If his theory is correct, then the Palestinians may never have a state, because at a deep psychological level, enough of them—or at least the groups that speak in their name—may not really want one. Statehood would mean openly compromising with Israel, and, because of the dictates of geography, living in an intimate political and economic relationship with it. Better the glory of victimhood, combined with the power of radical abstractions! As a stateless people, Palestinians can lob rockets into Israel, but not be wholly blamed in the eyes of the international community. Statehood would, perforce, put an end to such license. The closest that Israelis and Palestinians ever came to peace was at the end of the Clinton Administration in 2000, when then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak of the center-left Labor Party offered a slew of concessions to the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat—only to have Arafat reject them. How well is this essay for a 9th grade student? I know I'm bad at writing, but I thought I would at least get a decent grade on this. Out of 130 points, how many should it have gotten do you think (for a 9th grade student). "Several computer technologies have and continue to drastically alter the world. The invention of the computer inspired future technological advances that change communication significantly. Ever since the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989, web-designers have designed software and websites that have made it possible for the average person to connect instantly with other people anywhere in the world. Specifically, Youtube, Twitter, and Skype have allowed almost anyone with Internet access to become part of world wide communities. By bringing people into networks, these technologies have made it possible to know people more intimately across the globe. Firstly, Skype has provided a completely new way to communicate with people anywhere in the world. Ever since being created in 2003, Skype has made it possible for almost anyone to make a video call across the world. Before the invention of Skype, it was nearly impossible to interact face-to-face over the web. Not only has Skype made it possible for friends to talk with each other, but it has also allowed business executives to hold meetings across the world without the need for travel. The ease of use and wide array of features have made Skype attractive to many of it’s users. Additionally, Youtube has allowed people to connect by sharing videos online. Before the launch of Youtube in February of 2005, there was no easy way to view and post videos online. With its simple and elegant interface, the video sharing service made it possible for almost anyone with an Internet connection to view and post videos. With many of the videos on the site reaching tens of thousands of viewers, Youtube changed the way we think about connecting and sharing experiences across the web. Finally, Twitter has dramatically altered personal, business and political communication. Twitter, the massive global social network, is truly the SMS service of the web. With an average of 65 million short messages, called Tweets, posted every day on Twitter, average people and businesses alike can send and receive information within fractions of a second. Also, in many cases, breaking news stories have been posted on Twitter thirty to forty minutes before they appear on television. Twitter has given a voice to everyone with Internet access and allowed them to connect with friends and strangers all over the world. Indubitably, these social networking tools have expanded communication possibilities for billions of people. By enabling face to face contact, sharing of videos and rapid information exchange, these technologies have completely changed our world. Allowing people to connect in virtual communities, these technologies have provided means for many different types of communication. Hopefully, web-designers will continue to bring state of art technologies to the forefront of cultural communication. Ultimately, these technologies dramatically affect our every day lives" Darn, thats true. Good*
Name of an old Tribal PC Game? It appeared quite some time before the Virtual Villagers games ,can't really remember the year. The graphics were similar to those of the first Sims game, you know that crappy 3-D wannabe graphic :) I remember that at the beginning you overlooked the Globe and then you began with two small islands on each there was a small tribe with his leader.Your goal was to make your way to the other island and destroy that tribe, of course you could also built huts and stuff and train new people and I think that you could also attack the other with lightnings.Any idea? Oh ,and it also had a tutorial separated from the main game in a snowy region .
Is Megan fox a conceited, immature, tomboyish man? She was talking about how farts smell, she has tatoos. WTF. She also cusses a lot. She always talks about how she's the most beautiful woman alive. WTF. She even *forgets* to FLUSH her toilet. WTF?? Who......-sigh- nvm, she does that. Zac is 21? That’s a joke. Boys in their twenties are a waste of time. They have nothing to offer conversationally; they’re immature. I feel like I have a better shot with someone in his thirties.” - Elle, June 2009 Megan Fox on Zac Efron “Zac Efron is my obsession, we’re the same person. Did Collins project resemble Enron ? <Enron 2001: An Inside View Description: To many executives in the energy industry, Enron is a name that generates strong emotions. The very mention of the company in energy circles throughout the world creates reactions ranging from paralyzing fear to envy. For many of these firms and individuals, Enron is an entity to be both feared and emulated. This report focuses on the Enron's growth from inauspicious gas pipeline company to aggressive global market maker and look ahead, to the Enron of tomorrow. This report was the first and only competitive analysis report about Enron Corporation. It was written during the summer of 2001 before Enron went down. It is the genesis of Peter Fusaro's New York Times best seller What Went Wrong at Enron but has much greater depth and insights into Enron. Sample From the conclusion of the report, the following is written: Enron is a unique company. There are parts of the organization, most notably its entrepreneurial culture and financial performance, that executives and managers of energy and commodity firms across the globe admire and would seek to replicate. There are other aspects of the business, such as its ruthless corporate culture, that are not held in such high esteem. Even though some debate the overall merits of the organization, few can question the success the firm has achieved in recent years. Enron is essentially an imperfect knowledge-based learning organization. The company is highly aggressive and can move markets and develop opportunities. It has increasingly moved into new commodity markets that are very immature and illiquid and where initial profits can be significant. The question is how far can this commoditization process progress? The company, in its current incarnation, has practically become the energy 'dotcom' as it attempts its metamorphosis into a wholesale trading virtual entity with few assets. Enron gets results Over the past seven years, Enron's annual revenues have grown from $8,984 million in 1994 to $100,789 million in the year 2000. This represents a 1,121.9 per cent growth in revenues during for the period. While Enron has significantly, its dramatic increase in revenues during the year 2000 can be attributed to substantial gains in its Wholesale Energy Services division that includes its EnronOnline business. While Enron's financial performance has been first rate, to many, these results have been overshadowed by the "unappealing" aspects of its organization and culture, specifically, its lack of humanity towards employees. Since Enron views its employees as tools to generate profits, the firm has little patience for individuals who don't contribute sufficiently to earnings. This rather extreme performance-based culture has produced both benefits and distinctive drawbacks. Benefits of unique culture The Enron model is unique because it institutionalizes qualities and characteristics required to produce extraordinary results. The firm's endless pursuit of the 'next big deal' has created a culture that puts considerable value on learning. Its employees do not limit their efforts to replicating the same deals done by other firms. Instead, Enron's staff is constantly looking for new markets and opportunities that facilitate above average market returns and ensure their employment. Enron's actions have created an en .vironment where successful risk taking is highly rewarded, while individuals who take risks and follow business paths that prove to be unsuccessful receive lower than average bonuses or may find themselves without a job. There are numerous examples of Enron taking risks on a corporate level in an attempt to be innovative and earn significant returns. In recent years the firm has "stumbled" in several attempts to commoditize businesses. Examples include: - water; - bandwidth; - oil; - retail electricity; - LNG; - cement. In each, Enron made a significant financial investment and aggressively entered the market with people and resources. In these instances, Enron was premature in its attempt to make a market for a specific commodity or market that did not have sufficient interest or trader participation to provide the liquidity necessary to create a successful market. While Enron posted losses in each of these areas, the firm's ability to "cut its losses" early has allowed the company to quickly redirect resources into other, more profitable, areas. However, Enron has also had many positive effects on the energy industry. The company has successfully brought financial risk management and innovation to a conservative and formerly commodity-based industry. In effect, Enron has forced energy companies to rethink the markets they participate in, as well creating more liquid commodity markets. If imitation is the greatest form of flattery, Enron must be satisfied that many companies, such as Dynegy, Williams and Aquila, are now attempting to emulate the Enron model. Another obvious benefit is that Enron has followed the "McKinsey approach" of seeding its alumni with other firms with which it deals. Whether this a strategic plan, or just coincidental in nature, many ex-Enron employees find employment with other energy trading companies throughout North America taking with them the market making skills they acquired at Enron. Enron alumni have made both AEP and Southern Company (now Mirant) highly skilled energy trading companies. While Enron does lose trained personnel, this is easily compensated by the creation of greater trading liquidity. Enron would rather own a smaller part of a larger market than dominate an illiquid market over time. Drawbacks of Enron's culture Enron's culture creates a form of corporate paranoia and desperation amongst its employees directly or indirectly involved with deal origination. Each employee knows that their level of total compensation, and perhaps their job, will be in jeopardy during their annual PRC meeting. With little or no job security, each originator desperately attempts to close a deal, or possibly two, that will add to Enron's corporate coffers. To make matters worse, if this individual works in a poorly performing group, the odds against making successful deals become even greater. In an effort to better their odds, individuals in poorly performing origination groups will spend a considerable amount of time and energy attempting to transfer into better performing groups. This creates a mercenary and selfish attitude within the firm. This highly results oriented and politicized environment has created significant employee turnover within Enron. The end result is that only 20 per cent of the organization has more than five years experience with the organization. While some may say this is a good thing since only high quality producers are retained within the corporate ranks, this constant employee turnover can be destructive to overall employee morale and the sustained operation of the firm in the long-run. An often-voiced opinion is that Enron's Achilles heel is the way in which it treats its staff. Other energy trading companies such as Morgan Stanley have kept a very capable core energy-trading group intact over the years and added superior talent when market conditions warranted. This approach to maintaining and cultivating in-house talent in a more supportive environment has the potential to produce the same trading goals as Enron's "cutthroat" corporate culture. Another issue is that Enron's business decision-making processes are firmly entrenched with upper management. The recent loss of several senior executives may have an adverse impact on the depth of Enron's management, creating a situation where deal approval is left to less qualified individuals. Is the Enron model right for your organization? Enron is a complex organization, one that cannot be viewed as either "good" or "bad". Enron's culture is a direct result of the decisions made by the firm's management who strive to be innovative, create greater profits and enhance shareholder value. Enron's management has deliberately chosen to implement a corporate culture that creates an aggressive and nimble firm, a firm capable of changing its strategic direction in pursuit of the next new market or mega deal. From this examination of Enron, it is clear that the firm has many advantages in terms of its operation and performance, and a few very large negatives pertaining to its structure and corporate culture. While rival firms might be intrigued with Enron's relative success in recent years, they might not what to adopt the Enron model on a wholesale basis since it would totally change their organization and scope of operation. Such firms could, however, adopt the best features of the Enron model, specifically, the features that promote and empower employees to behave as entrepreurial opportunists. In order to succeed in an increasingly competitive environment created by deregulation on a global basis, energy companies must make their employees think like enfranchised entrepreneurs and not as salaried workers. Entrepreneurs are known for creativity and a sense of urgency in everything they do. These are qualities that workers in successful firms should possess. Employees who think of themselves as "salaried" workers tend to have a false sense of security and believe they are automatically entitled various forms of compensation. As such, they tend to be less innovative.
What were your opinions on Breaking Dawn? Your reactions? Personally, I thought the final book in the Twilight Saga was extremely disappointing. Breaking Dawn should have ended on page 122, no questions asked. Bella was totally out of character and E/B love was virtually nonexistent throughout the entire convoluted plotline. The entire book read like a horribly written fanfic (and I've read fanfics that were better than this book). Plus, the little details in facial expressions and descriptions that intensify the mood in Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse did not exist in Breaking Dawn. The most integral part of this story that was missing was the portrayal of the depth of emotion which has captured the interest of fans across the globe. It was the intimacy with the characters, where we could identify with them and truly feel their compassion, love, hatred, worry, and anxiousness that I really missed in this novel. SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK!!!! Ok, so now that my disappointed review of the book is out, here are just a few of the details and plotlines in the book that were confusing, totally out of character, impossible, fan-fiction-ish, or just strange and out of place. I have included some of the parts I enjoyed, also. 1) We never get to hear about Edward's bachelor party, and did Alice even plan a bachelorette party for Bella? 2) There was not enough character development for the Denali clan. I felt like they were just empty, filler-characters to give the Cullens allies later on in the book. 3) The story of the 'immortal children' was just randomly thrown into the story at the wrong time and felt out of place. I would have rather learnt more about the Denali clan than their deceased mother. 4) I absolutely loved the wedding ceremony that Alice planned (Go Team Alice!) and in my head, the dresses, decorations, and Edward in a tux were all beautiful. My only qualm with this scene is that I don't think Bella should have cried as she said, "I do." Plus, their little make-out session at the altar is gooey and out of place. I know that Bella supposedly loves Edward more than anything else in the world, but she is, as a part of her nature, extremely self-conscious and dislikes attention. But that's just me being a little too picky as I go back and scan the book for the parts that bothered me. 5) I would have liked to have seen more of the humans at the wedding reception, but oh well. (as a side note, when did Edward vomit the piece of cake he swallowed at the wedding?) 6) I loved how Jake showed up outside the wedding, but, of course, Bella has to cause even more werewolf angst and go into the 'gritty-details' of her wedding night. I totally agree with Jake here, since he, throughout the entire book, is the only one who really wants to keep Bella safe and is desperate to do anything for her. 7) Ok, who else thought that Isle Esme was completely ridiculous and gooshey (yes, i do own the copyright to the word gooshey now haha). Of course, Edward just can't take Bella to Hawaii or Europe (but far enough away from the Volturi). No, he has to borrow an island his family OWNS! *heavy sarcasm 8) I'm starting to sense a really out of character-ness for Bella. She's not objecting to any of these ridiculous things Edward is giving her and she's shoved the Jake fiasco into a 'Jacob-drawer.' Ridiculous. Even on her honeymoon she would be angsty and worrying about Jake. 9) I think Bella's nervousness and her courage as she goes out to the beach was perfect and I think that Stephenie did a great job in this scene. Although I really think Alice would have included some sweat pants for Bella. 10) Fade out to morning after, Edward's typical self-hate, and the pillows were all good to the storyline. Steph starts to use more curse words here, which kind of surprised me. 11) Can Bella only eat eggs? 12) Bella's hormones eventually take over and she 'seduces' Edward with her dream. Kinda freaky? haha. Then she completely DOESN'T want to become a vampire, even though she had absolutely decided to become one at the end of Eclipse. 13) Ok, the cleaning crew. Come on, I mean what are the chances of having a superstitious cleaning crew who knows everything there is to know about vampire-human relations. Its just downright obvious that Steph has something planned with these people in the future, even though there's no character development with these random strangers. 14) Ok, now it starts to get ridiculous. Hasn't Stephenie told us that vampires can't get pregnant? I mean, I know that Bella still can but the idea is so utterly preposterous that I can't believe that Meyers would do this to the book. At this point I was thinking, "Did someone put a fake copy of this book in the bookstore just to fool with someone's head!? It's reading like a fan-fiction I read months ago, but somehow worse!" 15) Why would the cleaning woman, so utterly terrified of Edward's vampiric qualities, help him and give him information that he needed? How did he ask the right questions? Its not like, "Hey, Kaure, I just knocked up my human gf and we think she's kinda sorta really pregnant, so what will the weird thing inside of her do?" No. That could not happen. Even Edward with his dazzling charms could not pull off that conversation. 16) Ok, so now that I'm furious at Edward for being so careless and stupid and disappointed that Bella has gotten a personality makeover and really angry at Steph for doing this to me, the only character left to me is Jake. I will admit that I was one of the Jacob haters before the release of the book. Now, Team Jacob all the way! I enjoyed part of the book in Jake's point of view, but it seemed to drag too much. 17) Claire/Quil was cute, but the baby talk was annoying and demeaning. 18) Edward asking Jake to get Bella pregnant?! I mean, come on Stephenie. Even in his darkest pit of torturous despair, he never would have asked that. It was out of character entirely. I couldn't believe that Jake had the courage to actually discuss it with Bella because it was so out of the question. 19) Now, Rosalie is made into a hero in Bella’s eyes, only because Rose wants Bella to die so Rosalie can get what she always wanted, a child. I wish Carlisle and Edward had temporarily disassemble Rosalie because she’s annoying and cause me to lose all of the positive opinions of her I had after reading Eclipse. She just turned into a desperate, baby-starved, psycho vamp. 20) I do love the titles for Jake's chapters. They're just so...Jake. 21) The italicized type for the thoughts of the werewolves was a tad confusing. 22) Its great that Jake forms his own pack and I now love Seth and Leah. Team Leah! Because she’s independent and can hold her own. 23) It was so obvious from Jake’s first thought of Bella drinking blood that she would end up doing it. If vamps are supposed to be so much smarter than humans, then how did these idiots not think of having Bella digest blood. It seems like all of them are rapidly losing their IQ. 24) With the biological explanation of Bella’s baby, it seemed like Stephenie was trying to make the idea of mutant spawn plausible, which was utterly ridiculous and annoying. 25) Ok, Bella drinks blood. And. She. Likes. It. WHAT?! This story makes no sense and Bella has lost all of her humanity. Wasn’t she horribly repulsed by blood from the very start? As a side note, why does Carlisle have a virtual hospital at his house and why does he have human blood if he’s a vegan vamp? He said the blood was for Bella when she changed, but why would she drink human blood if she was trying to be a veggie vampire like the rest of her family? No. Sense. Whatsoever. 26) Too much werewolf angst and tension that wasted about 100 pages. I suffered through the 700 page book. 27) I love how Leah gets furious with the pack if they think about seeing her naked and the blonde jokes are hilarious. Plus I love the dog food bowl and You. Got. Food. In. My. Hair. 28) Rose gets so territorial it’s ridiculous. 29) A fountain of blood? Ok, now the birth scene. Gruesome. It was stupid of Carlisle to leave hunting when Bella needed him the most. He should have done a C-section or something. Her spine cracks? I think Steph is just playing it up to show that Bella is sacrificing everything she has, just to leave her dead with a husband who is going to commit suicide because of her death but has to suffer and take care of her mutant spawn. I can add pregnancy and birth to my list of phobias because of this horrific, violent birth scene. Thanks Steph. 30) I thought that once people’s hearts stopped beating, it was impossible for venom to bring them back to life. Oh well, since we’re so far out with vampire babies why not add some more impossibilities to tick us off. I mean, I know that the world of vampires is not reality, but still, it must have some rules and boundaries and the rules can’t bend and break for Bella just because she’s ‘special.’ 31) RENESMEE?! What kind of a name is that?! 32) WHAT?! Jacob. Can. Not. Imprint. On. Bella’s. Mutant. Spawn. If I wasn’t for Team Jacob I would have laughed at his unluckiness. But of course, Steph is trying to make this a happy story for everyone, even though it’s just turning out into a disastrous death spiral of crappy writing. For the other three books, the problems throughout the book for at least one character were the things that made the books seem like reality. In this book, it reads too much like a fairy tale with everyone living their own happy, perfect lives. That does not happen. Reality is not a fairy tale with happy endings. Bella and Edward can’t just walk off into the sunset, abandoning their problems and expecting all their troubles to disappear forever. 33) The representation of the pain was good, but when she awoke as a vampire, something didn’t feel right to me. I finally realized what was the matter. The Twilight series up until this point was focused around the central problem of Bella remaining human and attracting bad luck because of her blood. I was halfway through the book and the main problem of the entire series was over. The rest, I realized, was just going to be fluff. And I was right. 34) Her ease at becoming a vegan vamp is just sickening and utterly absurd. 35) Bella has lost all of her personality when she becomes a vampire. She is no longer self-conscious and dependent upon Edward. She’s intelligent now as a vampire (sorry but her stupidity in parts of the other books annoyed me) but I think Bella was right about one thing when she was a human, that she wouldn’t be the same after her transformation. And she was right. There is no one in this book that we can relate to now. All the characters have been distorted and lost all of their former characteristics. 36) Renesmee is just annoying the hell out of me. She’s the perfect, most beautiful child in the world who’s already able to communicate, doesn’t make any messes, has special powers, and is adored by everyone. It’s just sickening. When Bella says, “my little nudger,” it makes me cringe. 37) Bella is just strange when she gets mad at Jake when he imprints on her freako spawn. Why should she be mad at Jake? She already knows that imprinting is involuntary. She’s just having another human spaz attack, but as a vamp with perfect self-control. Jake, at least, gave the creature a decent name, Nessie, instead of freaking Renesmee. 38) Bella gets a loveshack for her birthday? Are you serious? Totally fanfic. 39) CHARLIE?! What? Ok, now I’m furious at Steph. Everything Bella sacrificed as a human is coming back to her like her choice to become a vampire had no adverse consequences. Plus, I’m pretty sure Charlie WOULD freak out if he saw Jake get naked and then transform. 40) Carlie? Now this is totally cheesy. I’m cringing too much. 41) I know the strength of newborns is supposed to be much stronger than the strength of an older vamp, but come on, Emmett’s strength feeling like a feather? That’s too extreme. 42) Bella receives a jumbo diamond from Aro. Totally random and unnecessary. 43) Irina going to the Volturi? If Irina was mentally scarred by the fact that her mother was killed because of her immortal children creations, then why would she want the Cullens to experience that kind of grief and unending torture? I mean, why would she want to be a ‘purist when it came to the law?’ Can’t she hear the spawn’s heartbeat? Seriously, if vamps can hear what is happening miles away, can’t they hear a half-human’s heartbeat? 44) I think the idea of meeting all the other Amazonian and Scottish vampires is an awesome idea, but since they’re so many of them, I feel like each is just a printed name on the page with no depth. 45) When Alice writes in her note, “There isn’t time to write,” it annoyed me because aren’t all vampires able to write super-fast? 46) Why has the entire treaty disappeared and why does no one care about it anymore? 47) The whole sub-plot with J. Jenks had potential to be cool, but it fizzled out because it went nowhere. Plus, all that effort Bella went through wasn’t needed and it just wasted more pages in this already long and stretched out book. 48) I think Alec’s talent is totally bamf. Eleazar is an awesome name, too. 49) I think the shield power is really weird but necessary in order to find an answer to solve this droning, convoluted plotline when the Volturi come. By this time I was suffering so much that I only skimmed the paragraphs. 50) Bella gets all defensive about Renesmee which gets old really quickly. 51) I suppose its Steph’s good intentions, but the thing between Sue and Charlie is kinda weird. Its nice that Charlie has someone to cook for him and someone to talk to, but as long as they don’t get married or anything…which would be really creepy in my opinion. It’d be like, hey, lets have Charlie marry the wife of his dead best friend. Eww. No. That can’t happen. 52) Kate/Garrett is kinda cute, but really undeveloped and a little empty in my opinion. 53) Bella saying goodbye to Renesmee (eww the name is just so wrong and strange and eww) is just a waste because we all know that the Cullens will win against the Volturi like they always do. It’s just wasting paper on family gushy-ness which is sickening. 54) I absolutely love how the Volturi appear into the meadow because of its graceful creepiness. They produce an aura of unquestionable power and fear when they walk in their organized, graceful formations. 55) Of course, the Volturi have their moments of stupidity and can’t hear Renesmee’s heartbeat even thought their hearing is one thousand times better than human hearing. 56) Wait, so werewolves are no longer werewolves? They’re…shape-shifters? Wow, thanks Steph, I really needed to know. 57) The Volturi seem fine after they destroy Irina, actually happy to be there with the weird half-human mutant spawn. Then, they apparently have a sudden onslaught of PMS and immediately change their minds. Who knew old vampire men were so hormonal? 58) Garrett suddenly has his speech-moment which was really nice, but at this point, nothing could salvage the book. 59) Why does everyone have a little make-out session when they think they are all going to die? Annoying. Gooshey. Repetitive. 60) I like how Alice suddenly appeared with their ‘savior mutants’ but I really missed her throughout the book. 61) Happy Ending? Ugh. Out of character. Too perfect. Unrealistic. So, those were my opinions of the book. What were yours? I’m not sorry at all if what I say offends you or if you enjoyed the book. To each his own and you are entitled to think whatever you want. I’m just getting my opinions out there on the web because I felt strongly about how much this book disappointed me. If you did not like my critical review of Breaking Dawn, then why did you read it?
Discussion: On Premise Web Conferencing and Collaboration: A SaaS Alternative? In today’s marketplace there continues to be a growing reliance on web-based solutions for driving collaboration to conduct business activities within a mobilized and decentralized workforce. Business is no longer just conducted in one physical building, but spans across many people in multiple locations — including on-the-road sales teams, employees working at home, and even business partners that are located across the globe. That’s why web conferencing and other virtual collaboration solutions will continue to grow, especially since conferencing has become the glue that bonds dispersed enterprise teams in a global economy. However, when businesses decide to deploy web conferencing, or any other technology solution, there is an important technical question they must first answer. Where will the software live? Of course the technology options in the market today allow companies to either have their Web conference software code to reside on the vendor’s server, commonly know as the SaaS option, or to house the software on their own internal server by taking the On Premise installation route. Within each of these options are advantages and disadvantages that organizations need to be aware of so that they make the right comparisons and ultimately the best educated decision on which option is ideal for their business model. What do you think of this?
Is there a way to create a physical copy of Isynth? I have a program on my iPod touch called Isynth, it allows u to create a virtual tour using a series of pictures, I was wondering if there was a way to make a physical replica of it, preferably in the shape of a globe. Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.
