On Call of Duty World at War online multiplayer can you choose the maps or is it random?

Everytime im playing call of duty world at war multiplayer i dont know how to choose the maps, like i have never played on Outskirts. I was wondering if you have to be the host.

1. You can choose the map by hosting a private match with your friends. Other than that, the map selection is random.

3. Online, when you're playing with all the other people you don't know, nobody gets to choose the map. It's chosen at random. However, if you are in a private party, the host chooses the map. The only way you can choose what map you want to play on is if you play Co-op mode, or if you are the host of a private party.
