Do the Golden Globes & Oscars even care what the public like to see?
The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire, Frost Nixion & Cadillac Records. Give me a break. Nixon hasn't even broke a million in box office receipts. Plus most of these movies got there nomination before they even hit the theathre. No wonder the viewership for both shows suck. I guess only the critics and the so called high browed people get to give out the awards.
Public Comments
- I don't know about the Golden Globes, but the Oscar is an award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and as such the nominees and winners are chosen by selected industry people... supposedly for their technical or artistic merit. So in short, it's not a popularity award.
- The Golden Globes and Oscars are main stream bud.. They actually clearly do care what the public thinks. Milk and Slumdog Millionaire were the two best films of the year. If they based it off popularity The Dark Knight would be the best movie of all time, and common.. thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Thats actually what we need more of, people who don't base movie ratings off of popularity, because people have no taste in movies these days ONE THING you ARE right about is yes, this year the movies were less main stream than the past
- No they don't care what we wanna see.
- As much as you might want to have it be that simple, it really isn't and trust me, I've seen many a film or actor/actress that i thought was amazing be completly passed over at awards time. If you go,for instance, through the list if ALL the Oscar winners, past and present, you might be in for a rude shock to see how many brilliant talents NEVER won an award for a single peice of their work or worse yet, given a "consolation prize" for a not particularly good performance to make up for the oversight. The list is long and the people on it are amazing talents. Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole, great actors both, never won the Oscar. Neither did Barbara Stanwyk, Marilyn Monroeand a host of others, icluding Cary Grant and Irene Dunne.
