Where will a find a map of the world?
I was told that at one time, some of the continents were connected and you can see this on world maps.

- You can google this, but look at the east coast of South America and the west coast of Africa. They have much the same shape and were once connected. To see something that wasn't and became connected, check out the Himalayas ... for when India met Asia.
- Yes, there are maps available (on line and in textbooks) that show how the extent and configuration of the Earth's land masses have changed throughout geologic time--sometimes called "palaeomaps" or "paleomaps". These maps depict the results of the process of plate tectonics, which causes the parts of the Earth's crustal layer to shift around and bang into each other over time (and creating mountains and volcanoes in the process). In Earth's history, originally there was a single unified land mass known as "Pangaea". It broke into two parts, and eventually broke further, with the position of each part shifting around on the globe. The result is the configuration of continents you see on a world map today. Some key words for searching with are "earth history", "plate tectonics", palaeomaps, pangaea and gondwanaland.
