Wholesale Globes

What's the difference between the Oscars and Golden Globes?

It seems to me that they are both almost the same thing, except that the Globes includes television. If anyone wins a Globe for a movie, it's usually a sure bet that they will win the Oscar. What's the point?

Public Comments

  1. The Golden Globes are more for television and small movies whereas The Oscars are more for big productions. The Oscars are the bigger deal.
  2. Golden Globes are given out by the foreign press association of Hollywood. The Oscars are given by the Motion Picture Association of America. Golden Globes tend to be given to more popular movies, and Oscars go to films deemed "worthy".
  3. What the other two post said, but I think also that it has something to do with who does the voting. I think different entities vote for them.
  4. The Golden globes are for television & movies and are voted on and given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. The Oscars (only for films) are voted on by the people who make the movies. Nominations come from each group. For example screen writers vote on screen writers for the nominations. The whole Academy of Motions Picture Arts and Sciences can vote on the final picks for the awards. In the past the Foreign press (Golden Globes) has usually voted for big spectacles (not this year.) They also have a split category for best film and best actors by drama and musical or comedy. Oscars only have best picture and actor etc. which encompasses all genres
