What material makes the 'snow' in snow globes?
I got one as a gift and kinda want to add more to create more of an effect. Can I get the material at a craft store?

- I believe that they are small pieces (or orbs) of plastic. Don't hate me if I'm wrong though.
- someone once told me that you can make a snow globe out of mineral oil and soap flakes, but i don't think that it works. but i think if you go to your local hobby shop, they may be able to help you. if they don't carry the stuff there, they may be able to order it for you, or tell you where to look online. i did see a website that carries it, but it seemed kinda spendy, and you have to order at least $50 worth of stuff...check out this link.
- Check this page at my site for various ideas of what's often used in snowglobes, especially homemade ones: http://glassattic.com/polymer/outdoor_snowglobes_fountains.htm (... click on "Basic Info...Making Snowglobes," then scroll down a bit). You may have a hard time getting the bottom of the snowglobe off though, since they're usually glued shut. HTH, Diane B.
- You can use Glitter in a homemade Snowglobe. Get a small screw top jar and a small figure. Attache the figure to the inside of the lid, fill the jar with water and add some Glitter, screw on the jar top. There's your Snowglobe
- Get the glitter at a craft store and use mineral oil. It's consistency makes the glitter float down not drop with a thunk.
