Is it more efficient to USE my old light globes, or throw them out & get energy efficient ones instead?
I want to use energy efficient globes, but have about 10 old globes in my cupboard, is it better/worse to throw them out or to use them??

- If you'd want to buy an energy-efficient one, don't throw the other one out. You could send the old one to a recycling plant and, when it's re-manufactured, someone else could make use of it. Remember the 3 R's of Ecology: 1. Reduce 2. Reuse 3. Recycle
- if it is possible, try to return them. but if not, just toss them. it makes more sense to save energy for a long peroiod of time, than waste energy by using those bulbs.
- The new ones will save energy, as opposed to using the old ones until they burn out. But here's an idea. If you live in an area that gets cold in winter, use the old bulbs then, because the energy they waste is in the form of heat - which will save heating fuel! Then, when you turn your furnace off in the late spring, switch them for the new fluorescent ones. Switch again in the fall when it cools down. By using the old ones that way, you won't be throwing away perfectly good globes.
- If you want so save money i suggest you use the energy efficient ones cause you don't use as much energy and you play less electricity. Give them away to someone who might want them I don't know.....sell them or give it for charity.
- buy florescent bulbs they don't produce heat and last like 3x's longer
- use the old ones first, because otherwise you'd waste so many bulbs! Or even a better idea: give your old bulbs away (or sell them), so they wouldn't be wasted. Then you could buy some energy efficient ones for yourself and then everyone would be happy and you'd be helping the environment!
- LED light bulbs are even more effective than fluorescent. Check out the chart on the bottom of this page to see how much money you'd save on the life of the bulb: it's in the hundreds of dollars! http://www.ccrane.com/lights/led-light-bulbs/index.aspx
- Go ahead and use the old ones first. You already paid for them, no sense in wasting them. It's not going to hurt anything.
- Are the old ones tungsten bulbs? Your concern for the environment is great. Follow your feelings and get rid of the old and buy CFL lamps. Make a garden decoration or a mobile or some art work out of the old. Giving them away only transfers the energy consumption elsewhere. However, the thought is more important. You can continue using them and replace with CFL as they blow out. It is your call. Capital out now. Or increased running expenses on an inefficient system.
- USE THEM, WASTE NOT WANT NOT,,,,LATER GET THE NEW TYPE WHEN THE OLD ONES BURN OUT
- If you are reluctant to ditch the old globes, use them in fixtures that receive infrequent use. Put fluorescent or LED bulbs in the most-frequently used fixtures.
