Wholesale Globes

Are energy saving globes worth the extra cost?

do they last as long as old-style globes? My globes aren't going to destroy the Earth. I recycle and volunteer to clean wetlands, I can't afford to waste money on fancy globes but I can do other things. But if they end up being comparable or cheaper, I'll go for it.

  1. I don't know, but if they save the planet, they totally worth it. Wouldn't you pay to avoid Earth's destruction??
  2. You mean light bulbs? They use 15 watts vs 60, saving 45 watts. At my local rates, after 185 hours, save a buck. That's only about a months worth of use, and they last years. I think they're worth it.
  3. Compact fluorescent light bulbs, right now, are more " eco-wise" then anything else most consumers can get a hold of (ie. incandescent) & currently save over 2000 times their own weight in greenhouse gases. But since ALL buildings & dwellings on my Ranch are completely on solar / wind & we REALLY need to watch usage, every light is fitted with screw type (typical 110v lamp socket style) LED bulbs. They emit the same luminosity (typically 45w) but at only 1watt rather then a 45w incandescent or 10w CFL. However they usually cost twice as much as CFLs which is twice as much (or more) as incandescent. Still LEDs would be the way to go by far. Unfortunately CFLs contain Mercury which is VERY bad for the environment, so make sure that you do recycle them properly when they burn out. If you want more info on LED, the real energy saving and ecofriendly lighbulb check this out: http://www.agua-luna.com/p_lighting.html
  4. no. but it would be better to get energy saving globes.
