Is Avatar gonna beat Up in the Air at the Golden Globes for best motion picture?

According to oddsmakers Up in the Air is the favorite, followed by Avatar. I feel like Avatar is going to clean up at the Golden Globes. What do you guys think?

Public Comments

  1. Maybe not now since they have all that bad publicity about being racist but then again you never know.
  2. it may its also considered to be a very anti american movie
  3. The Hurt Locker will win
  4. Avatar is the best ever. Up in the Air doesn't stand a chance.
  5. Def Hurt Locker!
  6. Seeing as I've never even herd of Up in the Air...
  7. I read that Avatar is the second-highest grossing film ever, after Titanic. Cameron's done alright for himself eh! Not to say that will translate to Golden Globe virtue. I think it has a good chance though, certainly is a groundbreaking film.
  8. Yeah, I agree, blockbuster movies fare better at the Golden Globes, but the Oscars are a different story. The Academy hates movies that are too popular. On the other hand, they love movies with social and political messages that are to the left. So who knows how they will feel at the end of the day with Avatar? Aside from the politics behind how the Academy picks winners, Avatar is a great great film for many reasons. However, for best picture it would need an incredible story and screenplay. Avatar merely has a good story that is solid, yet somewhat predictable. Therefore, I doubt it wins best picture. It will win best cinematography, best director, and will clean up in the special effects and any awards related to visual effects and technology. I don't see a best actor or actress award (maybe Sigourney as a long shot for best supporting actress). It's gonna get 6 or 7 Oscars and that's it. Golden Globes? I say it wins 9-10 Golden Globe Awards including best picture.
  9. It better do for the sake of the Golden Globes' credibility! Avatar is no longer a movie - it's a global phenomenon! People all over the world have gone crazy for this movie. When was the last time that happened? In a time of wars, terrorism, media fabrication, global recession it's fantastic to find something we can all relate to and that lifts our human spirits above the mundane. I sincerely hope George Clooney wins a MUCH deserved Golden Globe and Oscar for his portrayal of Ryan Bingham. But as far as movies go AVATAR ALL THE WAY BABY!!! Best picture of 2009! EDIT: What's all this crap about racism?! I'm ethnic and I feel James Cameron is THE most un-racist director in Hollywood. He was the first director/producer to present a female ethnic character in a lead role: Dark Angel. Not only that, but he featured several people of non-white ethnicities in positive roles on the show. I wish less people paid lip-service to equality and actually practiced what they preach like Mr Cameron.
  10. I think Up in the air will win gonna clean up. The bad pub for Avatar recently will hurt it.
