Why don't most world maps and globes show the European Union as a single country?
It is a single federated state just like the USA or the Russian Federation. Showing fifty-odd countries in Europe is no less incorrect than representing each of the fifty United States as a separate country. It is NOT just an organization. It has its own Parliament. It is a federal government.

- because they arent states! the EU is just an organisation so that if 1goes 2war they all do, and loadsa other reasons
- Because it is not a country nor a federated state. It are totally different countries, growing towards a union in which they can speak with one single voice.
- "MOST"? You mean there are SOME maps that show Europe as one big happy country? Or are you just talking outta your hind parts? There's a big difference between the EU countries and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. But it seems you slept through World and U.S. history class, or were too stoned to pay attention. Try talking to some of the citizens of those countries and you'll find a lot are NOT happy about the EU. I've been there (7 countries in the EU), and I've talked to some of the 'common folks'. Do we here in the U.S. have to show a pass port when going from state to state? I would hazard a guess you've never been to Europe. And, yes, I've been to over 30 countries around the world (some more than once).
- Because it's not a single country! It contains about 27 separate countries and we're all different.
- well the EU is not a true country.
- Because they are still separate countries, but that will change soon enough if we let it.
- Rubbish
- OK two things here. 1: Your country, the USA is made up of states, some have their own laws and taxes BUT it is the SAME and ONE country run by ONE president. 2: Europe is made up from DIFFERENT separate countries and each country has their OWN laws, and has their OWN prime Minister/Ruler or president. See the difference??? The UK and Ireland are not even on the same Landmass, they are Islands and separated by the sea from the rest of the *Eu* land mass. The rest of Europe is on pretty much the same land mass, but as stated above, each one has their OWN president. Therefore they are NOT the same country just because they share land! The EU is NOT a single federated state. We JOIN the EU guidelines so that we can all share benefits with each other. This means some countries can have their people come to live in other countries. NOT everyone in that landmass are joined to the EU. In fact while Ireland has joined the Euro currency system the UK has NOT. If we are in fact the same country as you state, then why do we have different currency for a start? We do not share the same things, the same president and the same laws. If you follow the landmass down and around, you get to Romania and on towards Egypt or Iraq. They are not part of the EU!!! Just because a landmass shares land with someone doesn't mean they are the SAME country! I think you need to educated yourself a little more on how this side of the world is. It's not as simple as saying we are one country because A : We are not and B: we are not made up like the USA is. we are vert different and showing it as one country on a globe or map is incorrect! Perhaps it's not comprehensible when the USA is such a large country all joined together. BUT it's like saying Mexico should be shown as part of the USA LOL when it ISN'T part of the USA. LOL
