Decorating with globes and compasses?

A friend of mine is talking about decorating his living room with globes and compasses and such...He's calling it rustic or old world, but when I research those terms, it's not what he's describing. Any ideas?

1. i decorate with maps, mostly brown. also use globes, but i never thought of compasses. that sounds cool. maybe you could look into old treasure ships and pirate type stuff? or maybe thats getting too off base. shabby sheik maybe?
2. This would be a more masculine variety of Traditional design.
3. Think..."Conquistador" lol. The terms rustic and old world aren't really what he's doing. Its more of a classic period style. Almost Victorian, but slightly before. Think of words that come to mind when you think of the era Christopher Columbus lived in...that's the look.
4. Put in an old ship and an old map on the wall.
