How does an electrician fix globes?
Okay, this is going to sound really stupid. But bear with me. I need downlights and globes in my house to be replaced. But when I hire an electrician do they bring the globes and I pay for them in the bill or do I have to go and buy bulbs and then hire the electrician to install them. Thanks for any help.

- Globes and lamp types are personal decorative choices. The electrician will supply them, but you may not like what he picks and he will charge you a premium to get them. In general, you purchase what you want the electrician to install and he'll install it. The electrician is not an agent for your local lighting supply store and doesn't carry chandeliers around in his work truck. He would carry light bulbs on the truck, but only standard base and nothing specialized. Once again, his personal choice would trump whatever you actually wanted and you would pay a premium for him to go get them. I must say, this is a thing that you could probably do yourself. Changing out fixtures, globes, and light bulbs are all pretty simple affairs, certainly nothing requiring a union electrician. You use a union electrician when you have a new 762 horse power motor load 500 feet from the MCC, not when you have to change a light bulb or a trim kit. ------------------ I've rethought this. You could have some real esoteric and exotic lighting in your house that just can't be changed safely by a little old man or lady on a ladder. You wouldn't know how to change a 10,000 watt ECR projector bulb. Hell, I'd be scared doing that, those things are like 1,500 bucks a whack. What the electrician is going to want to know is base type, style (reflector, flood, HID, halogen, etc), wattage, and the supply voltage (you may have something weird like 208/277V). All this information can be found on the base of the old bulb. As far as the globes are concerned, that's still a matter of personal preference. Just make sure you get the right size globe for your fixture.
